Biographical Information
After teaching fifth grade students for twenty-three years, I decided to jump into a new adventure this year teaching "Ancient Civilizations". I earned my bachelor's degree from Drake University in 1995, and I earned my master's degree from Viterbo University in 2008. Through classes during the summer, collaboration with members of my professional learning community at school, and independent inquiry, I constantly seek ways to improve my skills and my students' learning.

Professional Beliefs
I believe in the power of a positive attitude and a growth mindset; one of my favorite quotes is, "It's more important to do your best and to be the best." Together we can and should accentuate the positives in all students and staff. We can choose our attitude and work hard to positively influence each others' day. Teaching offers me the opportunity to work collaboratively with my colleagues to make a positive and significant impact on students and grow as a professional. As a teacher, I look forward to the uniqueness and celebrations each day brings, including the collaborative problem solving used to overcome challenges. My classroom is a place where great character is modeled, built, supported, and expected.
Personal Interests
When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two daughters, playing guitar and piano, exercising, competing in volleyball, singing in my church choir, building and fixing things around the house, reading, being creative with drawing, photography, and digital arts, exploring the internet, and traveling. Growing up near Milwaukee, Wisconsin, I have been a huge Green Bay Packer fan all my life. I also root for the Cubs and all major college teams in Iowa. As for other random information, I enjoy puns, and over the course of my career, I have collected and worn a wide variety of neckties, particularly ones that start conversations with kids at school. I also love BBQ ribs, chocolate chip cookies, lemonade, ice cream, and frozen yogurt.
